Next stop: Addis

My very excited almost ten year old is quiet. Well, not quite. He's verbally pondering what would happen if a sneeze could burst your eyeballs. It is bedtime!

Made it safely to DC where we are staying the night. Tomorrow morning we'll catch a direct flight to Addis Ababa. Fourteen-ish hours later, we'll land in the capital city of Ethiopia. It will be Sunday morning and we'll then have just one more day until we meet little Miss Mulu. Hurrah!

It felt good to finally zip those suitcases last night. Seems like I've been packing for two weeks now. At 6:00 this morning, as I was unzipping one of those suitcases, I chuckled. Figures. A child would need an ear lavage and cerumen extraction after I've already packed my otoscope.

But, we made it out just fine, on a day that was just about as fine as it could be: 77 degrees and sunny, in February. The cherry trees are in bloom here in DC!

The buzz of excitement kept me smiling this morning. Brothers getting in one last game of chess before they have to say goodbye for too many days. I cherished (mostly) the noise and squeals and racing around. We drank smoothies out back and soaked up the sun. And mud. Josiah wanted to give a name to the day: Mission Mulu, Expedition Ethiopia, D-Day, Adoption Adventure, Mulu's Marauders. Mm. Not sure about that last one.

Said goodbyes to Bereket and Tamagn, resolved to shed no tears, and knew they were in excellent hands and will have much to share when we are reunited. I keep pinching myself to make sure this is happening. We are doing this again. We are now leaving behind the sons that last time we were going to meet.

My heart is full with many thoughts. Plenty of time tomorrow to sort through them, but for now, bed. Thank you for your prayers and all your support. I have felt so rich with the friends and family we have! Thank you.

here we go... again!

Wanna guess the occasion for my returning to this dusty corner of cyberspace?

We are going to Ethiopia again! Soon. Next Saturday.

My heart does a little flip every time I think about meeting the little girl we are going to make ours. We've watched her grow up, an ocean away, for 15 months now and darn it, it is time to bring her home.

God graciously let us borrow a sweet baby girl for seven weeks in the fall, unofficial fostering, and it was such a wonderful opportunity for my heart to grow in love and expectation of having a daughter. It got me over my fear of styling curly, black hair and put so much in perspective that this jaunt to Africa for two or three weeks seems much more doable.

So, here we go again! This is an invitation for you to come with us. Please do. And please pray for us and for our two little boys staying back. I'm already missing them.
