feasting with forest friends in february

There is snow on the ground now as I finally get around to finishing this little post, this post that I started on Monday when it was almost 50 degrees outside. And wonderfully sunny. We spent the better part of two hours in the backyard. In February! I love it. Winter, gray and freezing and l.o.n.g., was a big fear of mine back last summer, as our date to bring the boys home kept getting pushed farther back.

But it is February now, with just weeks of winter left, and I know we'll make it. We've hit our 5 months home mark and I am confident we'll make it to 6. We were wisely advised by other adoptive families to "just think six months out." Don't question whether you made a mistake or wrecked your family until after six months home. Because things settle after time. The new normal will come. It has come.

From the 5 month perspective I haven't regretted our additions once. Sure we've had some hard days but mostly, we've had good days. The sum of all the days is positive and for that I am grateful. And for the sunny days, I am most grateful.

We had a picnic outside on Monday. We've had picnics outside at least one day each month for the last four months. November, December, January and now February. This I can handle.
